In the same multi-site, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, red maca extract (3 g/day for 12 weeks) showed stronger effects on mood, energy, and chronic mountain sickness scores relative to placebo. Both ecotypes were well tolerated with no serious adverse effects.Pharmaceuticals, 2016
