Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in healthy young adults found that a single 600 mg dose of standardized Melissa officinalis extract significantly improved self-rated calmness and reduced ratings of alertness compared to placebo, supporting traditional use of lemon balm for relaxation and mood balance.Kennedy et al., Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 2002
