“Cochrane systematic review of 32 RCTs (n=5,666) evaluating Serenoa repens (saw palmetto) for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Standard-dose saw palmetto (320 mg/day) showed mild improvements in urinary symptom scores and nocturia versus placebo, though effects were modest and variable across trials.”Tacklind et al., Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2012
“Double-blind RCT comparing saw palmetto extract (320 mg/day) to finasteride (5 mg/day) for 6 months in 1,098 men with BPH. Both treatments produced comparable improvements in IPSS urinary symptom scores and peak urinary flow rate, but saw palmetto had significantly fewer sexual side effects, supporting its role as a 5-alpha reductase modulator.”Carraro et al., Prostate, 1996
