What the research shows.

Systematic review of 14 placebo-controlled human trials examining oral GABA supplementation for stress and sleep. Found limited evidence supporting stress reduction (including EEG alpha-wave increases and salivary IgA maintenance) and very limited evidence for sleep benefits. Doses ranged from 100-300 mg.Hepsomali et al., Frontiers in Neuroscience, 2020
Human crossover study (n=13) found that a single oral dose of GABA (100 mg) significantly increased alpha waves and decreased beta waves on EEG within 60 minutes, indicating enhanced relaxation and reduced anxiety. A second study (n=8) showed GABA maintained salivary IgA levels under acute stress versus placebo.Abdou et al., Biofactors, 2006
